The Saga prefecture boasts some of the highest quality as well as production amounts of agricultural and fishery products in Japan, such as the “Saga Beef”, “Saga Nori” (seaweed), and “Sagahonoka Strawberry”. Other genuine “top quality products” and “delicious products” include processed products such as the “Ogi Yokan” (red bean jelly) and “Kanzaki Somen noodles” that have been passed down since the Edo period. In recent years the popularity of “sake produced in Saga” is also rising.
However, the population of Japan has entered the phase of a long-term decrease, and in 2048, which is 30 years from now, it is expected to drop below 100 million. Consequentially, the domestic market has also been shrinking each year. On the other hand, competition with global market expansion is expected to progress, and competitions between production regions will intensify. Also, due to changes in social structure, consumer needs/ diversification will most probably accelerate as well.
Under these circumstances mentioned above, it is clearly difficult to compete solely through promoting the quality of goods when considering the importance of the distribution of prefectural goods. We believe that from now on it is essential to further develop prefectural goods based on the market-in concept, raise their added values, promote their quality, and establish a link between the producers and consumers. For this purpose, we have decided to newly establish the “Saga Products Promotion Public Corporation”, which is a “group of specialists” that can effectively utilize private sector know-how in order to create a “profitable” distribution environment for the prefecture and support the sales promotion of prefectural products.
This public corporation will recruit personnel possessing rich experience as well as top class expertise regarding distribution as “project conductors”. These conductors will shape the core of our “project team-type” organizational management, and coordinate with the producers/ business operators, and other people of the prefecture and involved organizations. Through these efforts, we will support further sales expansion of prefectural products as well as development of overseas markets.
The idea behind the name of this organization is to design a new form of distribution. Apart from improving production packages as well as the goods themselves, we would like to contribute with creating a promising environment where passionate producers are able to focus on developing agricultural and fishery products in the prefecture of Saga.
